Essentials

In June 2008, after six successful years, ISC was forced to move from its beautiful south-east country location to the west end of Edmonton.  The resulting drop in enrollment forced the school to close in February 2009.  In December 2009, Staff Members Nicolette Groeneveld and Mark Ogle restarted ISC  as a Sudbury home schooling group.  The search continues for a suitable, permanent location and the funding required to redevelop ISC as a full-fledged Sudbury Campus.

Staffing:

Due to the democratic nature of the Indigo Sudbury Campus, all staff are elected on a yearly basis. People interested in becoming staff members at ISC may become eligible for election after completing our Volunteer and Internship process.

Volunteer Policy (simplified):

1. Anyone wishing to volunteer at ISC must begin by becoming very clear on ISC's philosophy and operation.  Prospective candidates are asked to read the ISC Explained and FAQ sections of the website; further reading of past newsletters and other Sudbury articles is highly recommended.

2. The next step is for a candidate to book an initial tour of ISC during which the candidate will remain in the presence of a Staff Member.  Thereafter, if the candidate wishes to continue with the Volunteer Process, s/he will be asked to complete and submit an application form as well as a criminal record check, a child welfare check and three references at an initial interview with the Staffing Committee.  The specific focus of the interview will be the candidate's understanding of ISC's philosophy, and whether or not the candidate seems suited as a potential future Staff Member (level of professionalism, maturity, life experience etc.)

3. If a candidate is approved by the Staffing Committee, the candidate will be invited to do two visits of a minimum of two hours during which time the candidate will introduce him/herself to the Campus community.  Thereafter, a Campus Meeting member must bring up the candidate at a Campus Meeting and a motion must pass to have the candidate continue with the Volunteer Process.  If this happens, the candidate will be asked to make a presentation at the next Campus Meeting on the following:  a) the candidate's impressions of his/her two visits b) the candidate's understanding of ISC's philosophy and what his/her role is as volunteer c) why the candidate wants to volunteer, and what the candidate has to offer the students, staff and Campus.

4. After the presentation, the candidate may be questioned further by Campus Meeting members and then the Community will vote on whether or not to accept the volunteer candidate.  If the vote is favorable, the Volunteer will be asked to arrange a volunteering schedule with the Staffing Clerk.

Internship Policy (simplified):

After completing 30 volunteer hours, a Volunteer may apply to become an Intern. The application will be presented at Campus Meeting and will be voted on. If the Campus community votes "yes", the Internship will begin.

The internship requires 290 hours for completion.

Detailed descriptions of the Volunteer and Internship programs are available through the Campus and will be given to anyone who wishes to participate in these programs.
